How can i start playing Classical guitar?

im 17 and been playing electric guitar for about a year (practice on a clean channel!!) and im already playing some Lamb of God and alot of Megadeth type songs…

well i love music theory and know a fair amount…but how can i possibly start classical guitar? like maybe fingerpicking or anything…sounds like alot of fun
alot of fun and hard work which is enjoyable on guitar

I recommend classical guitar method by Matteo Carcassi. Other guitar books have dull exercises, but in Carcassi’s book every exercise is a very interesting piece of art and complexity of exercises grow very gradually so there are no much problems in the course of learning.

So you want to venture into the world of the classical guitar,Good for you!
Many players have the idea that the nylon string (classical) guitar is only suitable to play classical music which of course is not accurate. Many of my guitar playing friends use both acoustics (steel-strings and nylon-strings) in many of their performances. The great jazz guitarist Earl Klugh plays the nylon string guitar-check his web page.
    Now to your specific question:
I could recommend some easy to follow books to get you started: If you know how to sight-read the guitar music staff (the G clef) then the Mel Bay Publication "You Can Teach Yourself Classical Guitar" with a DVD
video is a good starting place. If you cannot sight read then Alfred Publications "Classical Guitar For Beginners" with CD is a good choice.
Along with either one of these books you could get the Amsco Publications "Fifty Easy Classical Guitar Pieces" arranged and edited by Jerry Willard, with CD.All the music in this book is in both, standard and tablature notation which helps you with your fingering. All these books together should cost you less than $50. at your local book store or they can order them for you.
Hope this will be of some help to you. Enjoy your classical guitar practice.
