how do i learn classical guitar?

i want to learn how to play classical guitar because then i will be able to play everything because you learn the theory of music as well. but i dont have the money for a teacher (im only 15) so what are some good sites to learn classical guitar or music theory and please no tabs of other classical guitarists i just want online lessons of classical guitar or music theory.

@Mikey- I think what he means to say is that he can play everything in classical music because he’ll know music theory, which you’ll NEED in order to succeed in classical music, involving musical notation that is pretty complicated.

You can’t learn online though. You’ll need a private instructor, like Bob said, in order to show you fingering techniques and properly and efficiently teach you music theory on the guitar. You can also be sure you are learning correctly and accurately, because string instruments with shifting of fingers and wide chords like on the guitar are definitely not instruments people should teach themselves.

Wait and get a teacher learning the right way, instead of wasting your time learning the wrong techniques the wrong way and sounding horrible when you play.

Best regards.

Your logic is not sound. You can learn music theory while you learn any genre of music, not just classical music. For example, every jazz guitarist I’ve met has a fantastic grasp of music theory. Your best bet is to get lessons with a teacher who has a degree in music.

For theory, if you already know the general idea about some of the concepts:

If you don’t know concepts really:

I prefer teoria because it has you do examples a lot more, and it also teaches you the shortcuts that make your theory knowledge more practical. There’s no doubt that musictheory.net is more in depth for the lower level theory stuff that you would start on though.

I’d also argue that classical guitar isn’t the way to go if you really just want to learn theory. Obviously classical guitar is beautiful, requires great technique, and it requires great interpretive abilities, but being able to do a harmonic analysis of Mertz’s 3 Nocturnes isn’t going to make you play it any better. On the other hand being able to do a harmonic analysis of a Night in Tunisia will probably let you play a Night in Tunisia better.

You will need a private instructor if you want to play classical guitar though, you’ll only struggle if you don’t. If theory is what you really want(which it sounds like), take AP music theory at your high school or any other theory class you can find.
